The first season of Loki followed everyone’s favorite Master of Mischief as he was arrested by the Time Variance Authority (TVA) for crimes against the “sacred timeline.” Forced to help the TVA fix the timeline, Loki found himself embroiled in a time-bending adventure that introduced fans to new characters, including Sophia Di Martino’s Sylvie, a variant of Loki, and Jonathan Majors’ He Who Remains, a variant of Kang the Conqueror. The season ended with a major cliffhanger, leaving fans wondering what’s next for the God of Mischief in Loki season 2.
Of course, fans can expect to see Tom Hiddleston reprise his role as Loki, along with some other familiar faces in the second season. Sophia Di Martino has also been confirmed to return as Sylvie, along with Owen Wilson‘s Mobius and Gugu Mbatha-Raw‘s Ravonna Renslayer. And with many Hiddleston and Loki fans waiting excitedly for any news about this highly anticipated new season, we’re happy to be able to provide an update on when Loki season 2 is set to hit Disney+!
Loki season 2 will premiere in Fall 2023
Amidst all odds and adversities that this show is facing in the current climate, our sources have been able to confirm that Marvel Studios has now decided on a Fall release window for the second season of Loki. Our sources elaborated on the release date window, stating that the season will more likely premiere in October 2023 as opposed to the September date that was previously speculated for release.
The shift in dates from September to October is due to production on the season hitting a snag with the aforementioned climate in the Entertainment Industry as of late. Sources have stated that Marvel Studios have had discussions considering the option of delaying the release of Loki season 2 due to several issues. At one time, there was a point where Marvel had placed the second season of Loki on an indefinite TBD date before deciding to move ahead with the potential October 2023 date.
Why was Marvel Studios discussing a further delay?
Our sources more familiar with the situation have mainly cited storyline issues, making it clear that Marvel wants to ensure the story is as strong as possible before releasing it to fans. Marvel Studios is also facing a massive elephant in the room, with the recent allegations of domestic abuse made against Jonathan Majors, the actor who had been cast as Kang the Conqueror.
According to our sources, Jonathan Majors will still portray Kang the Conqueror and his soon-to-be-revealed variants in the upcoming season of Loki. No decision about his future following the second season has been determined.
Given the nature of the allegations, Marvel and Disney are closely monitoring the case before making any official decision. However, according to sources familiar with the situation, Marvel has already started preparations (if push comes to shove and the need arises) to recast Kang the Conqueror.
Regardless, fans can now be excited to know that their favorite God of Mischief will return with more multiversal mishaps. Let us know what you think on Twitter @mycosmiccircus or on The Cosmic Circus Discord!
