The finale of Secret Invasion on Disney+ has left many Marvel fans baffled with various questions. But perhaps the biggest mystery of all surrounds longtime Marvel character James “Rhodey” Rhodes, aka War Machine. With fans curious to know what happened to Rhodey and how his story continues from Secret Invasion, all eyes are now on Rhodey’s next appearance for answers: Marvel Studios’ Armor Wars.
Armor Wars is an upcoming Marvel Studios film starring Don Cheadle, based on the comic run of the same name. The film places Rhodey at the forefront as he encounters antagonists who have taken possession of Tony Stark’s technology. The project was initially announced in 2020 as a Disney+ series, with Yassir Lester as head writer. However, no director had been previously attached to the project… until now.
Damian Marcano listed as Director of Armor Wars
It should be noted that the following information comes from a recent update on IMDb regarding the project and some crew additions. With that in mind, one should still take this information with a grain of salt. IMDb is not always dependable for this information; nothing has been officially announced yet. With that being said, let’s move on to the report.
According to a recent update on IMDb, Damian Marcano may be attached to direct the upcoming Armor Wars film. The update comes from William Ostroff, who has been listed in the project as an “Assistant To Director Damian Marcano.”
Damian Marcano is a director, writer, and cinematographer on several movies and TV series, most notably American Gigolo, Snowfall, Winning Time: The Rise of the Lakers Dynasty, God Loves the Fighter and SXSW-Award Winning Film, Chee$e.
Other additions to the creative team
In addition to Damian Marcano’s possible addition as the Armor Wars Director, several writers were also recently attached to the project for “script continuity and consulting” purposes, including:
- Beau DeMayo (X-Men ’97, Moon Knight)
- Malcolm Spellman (The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, Captain America: Brave New World)
- Zak Penn (The Incredible Hulk, The Avengers)
- Brian Tucker (Secret Invasion).
It is important to note that most of these writers have worked on projects where Rhodey was a part of their story post-Endgame. Such is the case with The Falcon and the Winter Soldier and Secret Invasion.
Zak Penn’s involvement in Armor Wars is also significant, as this would mark his return to the MCU after over ten years. Penn previously worked for Marvel Studios as a screenwriter for The Incredible Hulk, as well as a writer for The Avengers. What continuity these films could play in Armor Wars is something yet to be explored, if any.
When will Armor Wars be released?
Armor Wars is currently aiming for a 2025 release date, following the Fantastic Four. However, it is essential to note that while the writer’s and actors’ strikes occur, more delays to the MCU slate will occur the longer the strikes go on. It is essential to acknowledge that without the labor of the writers and actors currently on strike, the films and shows we’re covering here wouldn’t exist.
