Avengers, Secret Wars, Battleworld and The Multiverse Saga…

chance32252: Who are the official Avengers in Avengers 5?

Alex: The deal with the “Avengers” roster is that a lot of members are either off doing their own thing, dead or retired from duty. This new Avengers is expected to take a rough shape similar to how it somewhat banded together near the 2nd half of Avengers: Infinity War, but there wasn’t a true sense of union that could adequately handle the threat of Thanos in that movie. Avengers 5, if the story maintains the basic premise, should follow a similar pattern: several teams divided, tackling different villains before joining up together.

Who should you guys expect? A lot of the new heroes that have taken up the forefront of the latest MCU stories. Some of the characters I’ve heard repeated over the last few months from sources that would join the lineup include:

  • Captain America (Sam Wilson)
  • Falcon (Joaquin Torres)
  • Wong
  • Captain Marvel
  • Monica Rambeau
  • Shang-Chi
  • Katy
  • Black Panther
  • Ironheart
  • She-Hulk
  • Hulk
  • Thor
  • Valkyrie
  • Spider-Man
  • Daredevil
  • Doctor Strange
  • Clea
  • America Chavez
  • Ms. Marvel
  • Stature (Cassie Lang)
  • Kate Bishop
  • Clint Barton
  • Ant-Man & The Wasp (Not sure who will be replacing Evangeline Lilly as the Wasp, but last I heard, the Ant-Man and the Wasp duo would be one of the central motifs in this story)

I’ve also heard that the TVA will play a very central part in this story following the events of Deadpool & Wolverine, so expect some of the Loki fan favorites to return.

Lastly, I heard one more interesting thing that could give you at least an indication of where this story is headed. Expect variants for these upcoming movies. Variants of who or what, I am unable to specifically disclose at this time, except, some are fan favorites and others are new faces.

bobber 99: Who will be the line of Avengers after Secret Wars? Thanks.

Alex: That really is tough to answer because it’s so unpredictable in the current landscape. I’ve heard so many different alternatives, from soft reboots that recast fan favorite characters who have been either dead for a while, to simply just incorporating characters from other universes into the current main one and just going from there.

Elyse – Shoalsandsuch: Hi AlexWhat do you think the role of Yggdrasil be in Avengers 5/the remainder of the Multiverse Saga?

Alex: That is a very fascinating question, and I’m so glad someone finally asked it. Picture Yggdrasil as the new McGuffin/Infinity Gauntlet of the Multiverse Saga. He/She/They who control Yggdrasil will control over the entire Multiverse and bend it to their will. Everyone will want their hands on it. Right now, Loki has control over it, and he is simply keeping the Multiverse at peace and preventing incursions as best he can to ensure that every universe is able to exist in stable harmony. But there is only so much the “God of Stories” is able to do. After all, as much as I would want him to be, Loki is not a God. Much like everyone else, he is born, he lives, and eventually, he will die. And what do you think will happen then?

RedGyarados2010: Are there any plans to have projects set in Battleworld other than the Avengers films?

Alex: I have heard ideas about potentially having an array of projects set in Battleworld, but again, they are just ideas, nothing concrete.

RedGyarados2010: Will any characters from animated projects appear in Secret Wars, and will they be animated or live-action?

Alex: Yes, I have heard of the incorporation of animated characters for the upcoming Avengers projects. Captain Carter is one and Kahhori is another. As for whether they will be animated or live-action, too early to tell.

The Battle for Earth in Avengers: Endgame (Marvel Studios)
The Battle for Earth in Avengers: Endgame (Disney/Marvel)

Kosta: Hi Alex. Regardless if Secret Wars will be 1 or 2 films, how many hero characters do you expect to show up?

Alex: They’re always finding a way to up the ante with these Avengers lineup. The first movie had 6. Then the second one had 9. The third one had more than 20 Avengers and Endgame had more than 30. Just expect a bunch of heroes to show up from all corners of the multiverse.

RafaRosa: Do you think if we have a good DCU established until 2030, may we have Avengers vs. Justice League movie until 2035? This plan should be the another level of crossovers superheroes movies, studios uniting as one.

Alex: Jeez. I mean, anything is possible. But right now, it seems so absolutely far-fetched.

Courtney🇵🇷🇵🇷🇵🇷: Afternoon folks! Is there anyone being considered for Avengers besides Shawn Levy and Sam Raimi?

Alex: Aaron Moorhead and Justin Benson were the other names I’ve heard tossed around a few times, but other than that, I don’t really pay much mind to it.

Pol: What would be your favourite director for Avengers 5 and 6?

Alex: Right now, Marvel Studios has their eyes set on having one of their in-house directors to tackle directing these upcoming Avengers movies. My personal pick? Shawn Levy. I’ve heard wonderful things about Deadpool & Wolverine, not just the movie itself but how the production process was handled from start to finish, even with the Writers and Actors’ strikes that impacted production. Even more so, they were impressed with what the production was able to achieve, which is nothing short of an astonishing movie that I’m hearing reaches the levels of an Avengers-level story similar to Captain America: Civil War.

j.: Hi, Alex! What comics do you think they may be adapting or taking as inspiration for Avengers 5 and Secret Wars I/II, aside from Avengers Forever?

Alex: The Secret Wars storyline comics, leaning more into the 2015 storyline as opposed to the original.

j.: What do you think that they’ll choose as the split-point between Parts I & II of Secret Wars and why?

Alex: Wayyyyyy to early to tell. But if it were up to me? The Final Incursion, the end of the Multiverse and the creation of Battleworld.

America Chavez

Liam | Kate Bishop Fan: Hi Alex, thank you for taking the time to do these Q&As will America Chavez be in Avengers 5?

Alex: Hi! Last I heard, yes, she is expected to return as part of one of the Avengers teams heading into Avengers 5. I guess you guys can assume which one.

Armor Wars

hammerindustries: Hi! First time caller, long-time listener: Is Armor Wars DOA, being reworked, or still happening as is? Or do we have zero idea?

Alex: Hahaha, first I love the username and I love the intro. Second, Armor Wars, as I understand, is still in development, we should have an update soon.

Black Panther

chance32252: What’s the plan for Shuri in the MCU?

Alex: So here’s the interesting bit. Shuri is still taking time for herself, as she is not interested in the slightest in being Queen of Wakanda. She is still keeping the mantle of Black Panther, BUT, I am hearing that she will eventually pass on the mantle to the one true successor of the throne of Wakanda, the young Prince T’Challa, son of King T’Challa. It is to my understanding that she, along with Okoye and Nakia, are raising this child so he can eventually take on the mantle and become the next ruler of Wakanda and Black Panther.

Jace: Hey Alex, I hope you’re doing good today. Are there any plans to recasting T’Challa and bringing him back into the MCU?

Alex: No. But the story they have planned with his son is absolutely lovely, and I quite frankly would love to see it unfold as they have planned.

Captain America: Brave New World

h: What can we expect Sam Wilson’s role to be in the future post-Captain America 4?

Alex: One of the leaders of the Avengers.

h: What would you say is your most anticipated aspect of Captain America: Brave New World?

Alex: What the governments of the world have been doing for the past few years with their superhuman projects.

TonystarsR_40k: What is your level of excitement and expectations for the future of Hulk in the MCU, and why?

Alex: Check my previous Q/A for more on this, but I really am excited to see Banner in a new light after what happens in Captain America: Brave New World.

Daredevil: Born Again & the Defenders

Vacanus: Hi Alex, thanks for doing these as always!  Do you have any idea how prominent a role Muse will play in Daredevil: Born Again season 1?

Alex: He will be a very important villain for the story in Born Again.

Vacanus: Do you expect the new show to be able to maintain the same dark and gritty tone that the original show was so revered for?

Alex: Marvel Studios is not holding back with Daredevil: Born Again. It is a way for Marvel to show its audience that it is capable of handling mature stories meant for other audiences and not limiting themselves to what they know. I am even willing to go one step further and state something that Born Again will do that it’s Netflix counterpart did not. And I know it may sound controversial, but Born Again takes risks with their storytelling. The stakes are going to be higher than ever before, and the stories they have planned are some of the best ever put out by any Marvel production, period.

jessica jones and daredevil
Jessica Jones (Krysten Ritter) and Daredevil (Charlie Cox) (Netflix/Marvel)

joshua: With all of the Netflix shows being canon now, are you confident that Luke and Danny will not be recast, even though you previously said there are no plans for them at present?

Alex: They won’t be recast, BUT, IF, and that is a massive capital IF, they are brought back, expect Cage to be a more prominent character as opposed to Rand, who is expected to take a backseat role.

cosmicriver: Hi Alex, hope you’re doing well. Are there any plans to incorporate more of the Netflix Defendersverse characters into the MCU and spun-off into their own TV shows, like Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, Iron Fist and Daughters of the Dragon?

Alex: Having their own TV spinoff is very unlikely. But I expect them to pop up in shows like Daredevil: Born Again and handle it similar to how X-Men ‘97 handled its guest characters and cameos.

Agent Alex Mahone: Sup, Alex! Could Killgrave or his children appear in Daredevil Born Again/Spider-Man 4?

Alex: No. That won’t be happening in either of those projects.

Berotor28: Hi Alex, thanks for doing these This may seem silly given who we’re speaking of, but will Kingpin be back to his conniving ways with his new role as Mayor in Born Again?

Alex: Oh absolutely.

Doctor Strange 3 and other projects

Hifive326: With Doctor Strange now confirmed for Avengers 5, can we still expect a Doctor Strange 3 to happen?

Alex: It will eventually happen at some point. But prior to Avengers 5 is now very, very unlikely.

Rohith Dhar: Hi Alex, Do you anticipate that classic Dr. Strange villains like say Umar, Dormammu, or Nightmare will have a role to play in a Doctor Strange 3? Especially as The Cosmic Circus had the exclusive of DS3 being an adaption of Time Runs Out.

Alex: I have heard Dormammu will return soon.

Nerdpower88🇩🇪: Will we see the Agents of Atlas and Strange Academy in the future?

Alex: I have no info on those at the moment.

Echo season 2

Liam | Kate Bishop Fan: Hi Alex, thank you for taking the time to do these Q&As Is there any possibility Echo gets a season 2?

Alex: I don’t think so. But I would love it. Echo was a fantastic representation of Native American culture and I would love to have more of the show.

Hulk

BraveFire: In (the June Discord Q&A part 1) you said that several countries will create Hulks “the United States government and the governments of the world creating their own Hulks”. Who are the other Hulks, and will they play a major role in the Hulk film?

Alex: Just because they are experimenting does not mean they were successful.

TonystarsR_40k: Given the current state of Bruce Banner (Smart Hulk), do you think it would be possible to adapt a live action World War Hulk film, despite the latter’s very few appearances?

Alex: It’s a possibility.

Cryptic: Hello Alex, Will we see Hulk soon in any upcoming projects?

Alex: Yes.

Jimmy Woo

cosmicriver: Hi Alex, hope you’re doing well. Can we expect to see Agent Jimmy Woo in any upcoming projects, whether television shows or movies, outside the confirmed appearance in Marvel Zombies?

Alex: Oh yes. I’ve heard Agent Woo will have a very interesting character arc coming up.

Kate Bishop

RafaRosa: What is Kate Bishop’s future in the MCU? Will she show up in Spider-Man 4 or Avengers 5 or 6?

Alex: She is currently allied with Kamala Khan, assembling something. Avengers 5 and 6 is certain. Spider-Man 4 not so much.

Marvel Studios at SDCC & D23

joshua: Have you heard much about Marvel Studios’ plans for SDCC and D23? (hoping for Ms. Marvel season 2)

Vinny: Hey Alex, hope all is well. Is Marvel Studios planning to give a major update to the slate at Comic-Con on July 27th at Hall H or is the plan just giving the major slate update on August 9th at D23?

Alex: It seems that SDCC will heavily focus on the immediate upcoming releases as well as giving a massive slate update, while D23 will have more Disney+ stuff. Either way, we’ll be eating good.

Moon Knight season 2

CamCam: Hello again, Alex. What can fans expect from Moon Knight’s story going forward, given Marvel’s planned cutbacks? I fear that having his next MCU appearance be Midnight Sons or whatever could result in some unfortunate offscreen development, like what Hulk received between Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame.

Jace: Any idea if Moon Knight will get a season 2, if not will we see him appear in future projects?

Alex: I believe they are still expecting to do a season 2 of Moon Knight prior to Midnight Sons. After all, like you said, they need to do something that will continue Marc’s development prior to teaming up with another group. Also, a change in scenery is necessary. Say… New York?

Rio Vidal, Scarlet Witch and Elizabeth Olsen

bobber 99: Hi Alex, a long time ago, you posted a gift about Wanda with the words “wakey wakey.” What does this mean?

Alex: Hi. I was bookmarking the day I heard something interesting about the Scarlet Witch. I often do that to keep a personal record of dates of when I learn things, and also to try to keep you guys in the loop. I can’t disclose what I know about Wanda just yet, BUT, I just want you guys to know, her story is far from over.

aspksss: Is there a chance that Elizabeth Olsen will portray another character in the MCU besides Wanda Maximoff?

Alex: Interesting question.

aspksss: Rio Vidal is a very strong character, according to insiders. Does Marvel have plans to move the character forward, and is there a possibility that Aubrey Plaza and Elizabeth Olsen will reunite in a Marvel project?

Alex: Definitely.

Shang-Chi, Xialing and The Ten Rings

CamCam: What’s the word on Xialing and her revamped Ten Rings? I’m assuming she and the Ten Rings organization will return in Shang-Chi 2, but have you heard anything about how her story will continue?

Alex: I have heard some interesting things, even being associated with the Power Broker, but no idea how that will unfold.

Cryptic: How will the MCU further explore Shang-Chi?

Alex:  His next movie is filming next year. And there is a plan for him to appear in the next Avengers films. His rings will be very important.

Spider-Man 4 and Kingpin

arn0_20: How big and symbolic of a hero will they make Spider-Man become in the MCU compared to the likes of Cap, for example?

Alex: Spider-Man will be a very important character for these next few stories.

arn0_20: Wassup Alex! Feels good to talk to you again. Who would you say will be the Kingpin’s biggest NYC adversary moving forward in the MCU, Daredevil or Spidey?

Alex: Hi! Both. He hates both equally.

Berotor28: Will Fisk have a physical presence in Spider-Man 4 or is it more so the effects of his tenure as mayor that are present in the film?

Alex: I hear it’s both.

urimanta0619: Will Miles be in the MCU or just the Sonyverse?

Alex: I’ve heard plans for him to be incorporated into the MCU story line in live action, but really way down the line, so it will be a while.

Venom: The Last Dance

wade: Will Venom: The Last Dance have or mention Knull?

Alex: Yes.

Marah Philomena: Is Rhys Ifans supposed to be reprising as Dr. Conners in Venom 3 as a variant or OG character, or is he playing a new character all together? Thank you again!!

Alex: I believe he is a new character.

Vision Quest and Marvel Studios serialized shows vs limited series

Pierre Chanliau: Hey, Alex, is Marvel Studios/Disney still reportedly intent on focusing more on serialized shows in the future as opposed to limited series?

Alex: Yeah, serialized shows are the still the way to go. Limited series are going to be reserved for characters with simpler origin stories that build into upcoming movies.

Pierre Chanliau: With reports of Vision Quest back up and running, will it have the built-in potential for multiple seasons?

Alex: I see Vision Quest more as WandaVision season 3, if that makes sense. And I am also very, very excited for what this show is planning to do.

What if…? season 3 and the Guardians of the Multiverse

Titan: With Captain Carter being summoned and many people talking about a new Guardians of the Multiverse by the end of What If…? season 3, could you tease one other member of this team?

Alex: Spider-Man.

Wonder Man series

Rohith Dhar: Do you have any insight/info to share on what you know about Wonder Man? That is the one MCU show that I’m extremely in the dark about, beyond it being pitched as a Hollywood-themed satire.

Alex: There are some interesting horror elements that will be added into it, so it will be a combination of comedy and horror.

X-Men and X-Men ‘97 season 2 news

LizzieHill: Hey, I have a question for you, Alex! Have you heard anything about when X-Men ‘97 season 2 might be released?

Alex: Well, howdy, boss! As a matter of fact, I do! I have heard from multiple sources that the next season of X-Men ’97 is being aimed to be released at some point next year, with a possibility of a Summer release on Disney+.

Marah Philomena: Hi Alex! I know last year back in July & November you hinted that Alan Cumming’s Nightcrawler was rumored to have some cameo in Deadpool & Wolverine, I know you probably can’t say much since the film is on the horizon, but I wanted to ask if those rumors still hold true?

Alex: I really can’t answer that question at this time. I just want to say this. If you’re an X-Men fan, this movie will make you really, really happy.

Miscellaneous questions for Alex

RobbyB3ll4s: What type of food is your favorite?

Alex: Nothing beats white rice, black beans and a nice churrasco steak with chimichurri.

RobbyB3ll4s:  What’s a random movie franchise that yourself enjoy that isn’t Marvel?

Alex: I truly love sci-fi franchises like Alien & Blade Runner.

Ecko: What’s your favourite colour?

Alex: Aquamarine
