Hello readers, and welcome to the Star Wars companion guide for the Rebellion! With the release of Andor, I thought it would be good to revisit the Rebels and their adventures to take down the Empire.

In a deleted scene from Revenge of the Sith, we saw the formation of the Rebellion. Senators Bail Organa, Padmé Amidala, and Mon Mothma meet with a few of their colleagues to discuss what is happening in the Republic and how the fear that Palpatine might not give up power. Even though Padmé wasn’t able to continue to fight Bail and Mon continued to keep her idea alive.

Although we’ve seen the start of rebel cells before I’m excited about this new adventure! I can’t wait to see Diego Luna and Genevieve O’Reilly return to their roles as we learn more about these beloved characters.

Quick start:

  • Rebel Rising (2017) (novel)
  • Catalyst: A Rogue One Novel (2016)
  • Rebels (2014)
  • Andor (2022)
  • Rogue One: A Star Wars Story (2016)
  • Star Wars: A New Hope (1977)
  • Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back (1980)
  • Star Wars: Return of the Jedi (1983)

As always, strong recommendations are in bold. Have fun watching!

“Rebellions are built on hope.”

Rise of the Rebellion (32 – 0 BBY)

Once the Rebellion was put together, Bail Organa began secretly leading rebel cells against the Empire. These rebel cells were called Ghost and Phoenix squadrons and later officially joined the Rebel Alliance. From 11-2 BBY we see the stories of these rebels and everything they do to take down the Empire.

Rogue One POV and Dr. Aphra

End of the Empire (3 ABY – 34 ABY)

One of my new favorite eras of Star Wars is post-Empire Strikes Back. I love the new stories being told through comics. Doctor Aphra is one of my favorite comic additions over the last few years. She explores an aspect of Star Wars I’ve never thought about, archeology! I also love her partnership with Darth Vader. It’s a chaotic pairing but I can not get enough of them.

I’m also enjoying diving into what happened after Return of The Jedi. Knowing that the Empire was still out there thanks to many of the books makes me view the movie in a different light. It’s chilling to know that even after everything the Rebels did Palpatine still had major plans.
