Ook? AAHK! AK-AAAKK! OO-OOO-OOO-AA-AAA-AAA!! That’s right, this is the Hit-Monkey comics reading guide!
After the sensational debut in 2021, Hit-Monkey is returning to our screens for a second season starting July 15, 2024 on Hulu. More than just an adult cartoon about a monkey with a gun, the Hit-Monkey experience was elevated by its stellar voice cast (Fred Tatasciore and Jason Sudeikis!), excellent soundtrack, pop culture homages, anime visual style, and deep emotional core.
But it all started with the comics! So while we wait for the new season to arrive, here are the best Hit-Monkey comics stories to check out!
Hit-Monkey Comics Recommendations:
- Hit-Monkey (2010a) #1 (one-shot)
- Hit-Monkey (2010b) #1-3
- Deadpool (2008) #19-21, 61
- Howling Commandos of S.H.I.E.L.D. (2015) #1-6
- Old Man Logan (2016) #14-15
The show builds on the foundation set by the Hit-Monkey comics, but the comics’ lore is a bit different from the show. There’s still lots of new territory the second season can explore, like seeing Monkey interact with Deadpool’s Mercs for Money and S.H.I.E.L.D’S supernatural Howling Commandos!

“His name is Hit-Monkey. He’s a hitman. Who’s a monkey.”
Hit-Monkey (2010s)
Hit-Monkey barely has any comics history at all, making this a breeze to read in a night! These stories are super fun and perfectly established the spirit of the show. The saga began in 2010 with a one-shot by Daniel Way, who continued writing the Monkey in Deadpool #19-21 and his own miniseries!
Following Way’s Hit-Monkey comics, our hero enlisted in a couple team-up adventures across the Marvel universe. His current whereabouts are unknown, but we hope he’s enjoying his vacation somewhere safe and happy.
