Currently, Daredevil: Born Again’s filming sits at a standstill while the actors and writers are currently on strike, a struggle that involves many studios including Marvel Studios’ parent company, Walt Disney Studios. Since people are fighting for better working conditions in their chosen professions, and it’s unclear when the strike and its issues will be resolved, we can’t be too sure when the highly anticipated Disney+ series resume shooting. Prior to the strikes, Daredevil: Born Again was scheduled to film through the rest of 2023. That being said, that doesn’t mean that info doesn’t somehow make its way out into the wild that can entice everyone waiting for any sort of update. The Cosmic Circus is excited to report on two additions to Daredevil: Born Again, a cinematographer and producer.
Pedro Gomez Millan joins Daredevil: Born Again
First off I’d like to thank Kepler, one of the residents in The Cosmic Circus Discord who passed this information along to me! With this, we’d like to report on the inclusion of the cinematographer Pedro Gomez Millan, for the newest putting of the man without fear. Millan who most recently worked as director of photography on five episodes of season two of The Lincoln Lawyer also worked as a cinematographer on Search Party, The House of Flowers, and Trinkets. He even has a few music videos under his belt as a cinematographer.
That being said, The Lincoln Lawyer proves to be the most interesting, seeing that Daredevil: Born Again will feature Matt Murdock (Charlie Cox) in a courtroom. This makes a ton of sense, with the writing room that has been assembled for Daredevil: Born Again and the combined experience working on legal series, a cinematographer well-versed in courtroom drama. Sounds like DD: BA might be in good hands with Millan behind the camera.
Rudd Simmons is attached to the Marvel Studios project as well
If that wasn’t exciting enough, a quick browse of Millan’s Resume/CV, you also spot another interesting entry located in the third column. Written down on his CV, Chris Ord is listed as Producer, with another name listed next to it: Rudd Simmons.
Looking at Simmons’ credits, it appears that he has an eclectic collection of projects under his belt, having worked on a good variety of television series and feature films. At first, my eye (and mind) were caught off-guard that he worked on a Wes Anderson movie that I love, The Royal Tenenbaums. If you’re unfamiliar, the film deals with a crazy family, with isn’t a far stretch from the family Matt Murdock has in Netflix’s Daredevil. The family dynamics between Murdock with both his mother and father. Perhaps that plays out within Daredevil: Born Again.
The more relevant productions from Simmons though were State of Affairs, The Enemy Within, and Crossbones. But The Enemy Within was the most intriguing as it deals with storylines that might feed well into the themes of Daredevil: Born Again. State of Affairs is entirely different but both of these hold something important – female leads.
With the introduction of Kirsten McDuffie (Nikki M. James) incoming and rumors of rebranding “Nelson and Murdock” to “Murdock and Associates”, Simmons’ experience in TV procedurals should be a great boon to the series. However, both of these series also center on CIA/FBI operations, as well as a greater criminal storyline, another factor that fits in so well with the street-level side of the MCU and the narrative that Daredevil has explored in his previous Netflix series.
Daredevil: Born Again seems to be in good hands
Looking a little closer at Pedro Gomez Millan’s work, we can see that he does have some extensive experience working on series with other streaming services. His work history shows series across Netflix, HBO, Amazon, and Apple. Viewing his Instagram posts, there are some very attractive city-centric shots that he’s shared. With Matt Murdock poised to be spending his time in New York after the events of Echo, it’s good to know that our view of the vigilante is from a well-experienced perspective.
While we are unsure of when Daredevil: Born Again may hit the Disney+ streaming service, but we’re all the same excited to see Charlie Cox reprise his role as Matt Murdock. As well as the return of Vincent D’Onofrio as Wilson Fisk/Kingpin after the events of Hawkeye!
What do you think of these additions? Are you excited for another Daredevil series? Let us know on social media or The Cosmic Circus Discord!
