After fifteen years of storytelling, Marvel Studios continue pushing boundaries with their upcoming projects. Marvel Studios has never been one to rest on its laurels, wishing to try new things, enriching the stories of these beloved characters. Of all the upcoming series, perhaps Ironheart is taking the biggest gamble. Described as a clash between technology and magic, Ironheart places Riri Williams (Dominque Thorne) against The Hood (Anthony Ramos), personifying the clash at the show’s core. All that said, The Cosmic Circus is excited to share more information on Mephisto’s role in Ironheart and who bought Avengers Tower.

Tony Stark’s made a deal with the devil for Avengers Tower

Since Spider-Man: Homecoming, fans have been wondering who purchased Avengers Tower from Tony Stark. As you may remember, a significant plot point of Homecoming’s finale centered around Happy Hogan (Jon Favreau) supervising a moving of Stark technology and weapons from Avengers Tower to their new facility in Upstate New York, with the help of a Department of Damage Control jet.

The selling of Avengers Tower, while so significant to the climax of Spider-Man: Homecoming, has been a plot point that has been left hanging since the film came out six years ago. Why has there been so much secrecy about who purchased it? Many have speculated that the mysterious benefactor from Ant-Man and the Wasp is the one behind the seedy underworld that is building in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, as well as the purchaser of Avengers Tower from Tony Stark. Thankfully, we’ve been given clearance from the Department of Damage Control to speak on the issue.

Mephisto's Role in Ironheart

Our sources can exclusively confirm that Mephisto was in fact the mysterious benefactor that purchased Avengers Tower from Tony Stark in Spider-Man: Homecoming. As of right now, we can’t confirm if Tony Stark knew who he was making a deal with, or if he did, why he made a deal with someone like Mephisto. Although Mephisto’s reason for wanting Avengers Tower lines up with what we alright know about Ironheart.

Mephisto’s fascination with technology is certainly intriguing. It fits the narrative of the Magic vs Technology story that Kevin Feige has alluded to in previous discussions of the show. Earlier today, Twitter scooper @CanWeGetSomeToast mentioned that “The Hood is stealing tech for Mephisto in Ironheart. The question is, why?”, with another insider @MyTimeToShineH adding “Mephisto in his human form own a tech company.” Still, no one has elaborated on why Mephisto is seeking out technology. However, his role in the Ironheart, as well as the purchase of Avengers Tower, works well with Ironheart, who is the spiritual continuation of the Iron Man series.

Other bits about Mephisto’s role in Ironheart

With the big reveal of Mephisto’s new business, standing high in the New York City skyline, it feels like Mephisto’s presence in Ironheart is going to be huge. He’ll be casting shadows across the technological landscape, causing havoc for Riri Williams.

In addition, we have a bit more information about Mephisto in Ironheart, which helps build a well-rounded picture of what to expect from this larger-than-life villain from Marvel Comics. We can also reveal that Mephisto’s persona in the upcoming Ironheart show will be mainly a humanoid, business attire individual, with his cómic-accurate demonic form appearing only in certain parts of the show. Our sources have cited Fox’s and Netflix’s take of Tom Ellis’ Lucifer as an inspiration for the version of Mephisto.

Perhaps this decision makes sense storywise, with Mephisto needing to blend in with those around him better, so as to not draw suspicion. However, having Mephisto appear as a normal human also cuts down on production time and money. Either way, it’ll be exciting to have some answers to long-gestating questions within the MCU. Although, I’m sure the introduction of Mephisto to the MCU will only lead to even more questions, especially as the supernatural side continues to evolve.

Ironheart is expected to arrive on Disney+ in 2024 . Are you excited about Mephisto’s role in Ironheart? Let us know on Twitter or in the Cosmic Circus Discord. And if you haven’t already, check out our recent What I Heard about the potential casting of Hunter Doohan in Daredevil: Born Again!
