Theory: ‘Deadpool 3’ Could Pave the Road for More Inhumans

I don’t know about you readers, but I’m incredibly excited for Deadpool 3. What was originally near the bottom of my highly anticipated list, with each picture from the set and cameo announced my eagerness for Deadpool and Wolverine continues to climb. Between what is known and the rumors that keep coming out almost every day, it’s safe to say that viewers are in for a hell of a ride. However, Deadpool and Wolverine has the potential to bring back a group that some fans have been asking obsessively about, the Inhumans.

I know what you’re thinking, isn’t Quake coming back in Secret Invasion? While everyone is waiting for one specific Inhuman to reappear (with her appearance in the Samuel L. Jackson-led series is looking less and less likely by the week), there are other members of this superhuman race fans are waiting for in the form of the Inhuman royal family. So how could the third Deadpool movie lead to the reappearance of the Inhumans in the Marvel Cinematic Universe? By returning to the scene of a crime, of course!

A reported return to universe 838

As we already know, Deadpool (Ryan Reynolds) and his compatriots, mostly Hugh Jackman’s Logan, are having a trip through the multiverse in Deadpool and Wolverine. While some of the details of this multiversal road trip are still fuzzy, according to sources of our own Alex Perez , these two end up on Earth 838, which was last seen in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. And if you remember what happened in 838 to most of the Illuminati, it wouldn’t be shocking to see that world plunged into total chaos.

For those who need a quick refresher, Earth 838 was the universe that Doctor Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch) and America Chavez (Xochitl Gomez) crash land on after Wanda (Elizabeth Olsen) attacks Kamar-Taj. In this universe, Doctor Strange has been killed and the Illuminati are now the defenders of Earth, so to speak. That being said, 616 Wanda, inhabiting 838 Wanda’s body, makes quick work of demolishing the likes of Mr. Fantastic (Jon Krasinski), Captain Carter (Hayley Atwell), and yes Black Bolt King of the Inhumans, played by Anson Mount. Mount reprised his role from the Inhumans television series.

When returning to Earth 838 in the aftermath of Wanda’s actions in Multiverse of Madness, it’s safe to say that there are a lot of heroes still on the planet who won’t be too happy to see travelers from another Earth. I bet one of them is Medusa, Queen of Attilan and the Inhumans, and wife of Black Bolt.

Fitting Medusa and the Inhumans into Deadpool 3

How exactly the rest of the royal Inhumans family could factor into the film is still a big guess. Honestly, with the amount of rumored and confirmed cameos and roles in the film, there might not be room for one more face from Marvel’s past. That being said, there’s an easy way to bring someone such as Serinda Swan back as Medusa that would work well within the confines of the story. What happens when there’s a power vacuum, left in the wake of the Illuminati’s absence?

The Illuminati are no more, at least most of them are observed dead during Multiverse of Madness, with the exception of Maria Rambeau’s Captain Marvel (Lashana Lynch) and Mordo (Chiwetel Ejiofor). However, someone would have to take the dead heroes’ places on the team, as the new protectors of Earth 838.

Perhaps some of these spots will be given to heroes from the Fox Universe of Marvel heroes, seeing as this film is leaning heavily into past Fox properties. Is anyone up for Channing Tatum Gambit on the team? However, it’s also possible that the reformed Illuminati team would be comprised of similar makeup, a mutant, a wizard, a super soldier, a member of The Fantastic Four, and of course an Inhuman.

Medusa Inhumans
Medusa as seen in Marvel Comics.

Bringing Medusa to the forefront as Black Bolt’s replacement would make the most logical sense, but also provide a wonder storyline of strength and grief. In the comics, Medusa served as the voice of Black Bolt, the steadfast wife that was his equal in every way. She was just as important as he was, which is something we don’t always see in stories focusing on royals.

However, in the comics, there comes a time that Black Bolt is killed, leaving Medusa to assume control of the Inhumans, which she does with poise and strength, but also a fierce rage having lost the love of her life. This happens at least twice, although the second time Black Bolt just disappeared instead of dying. It’s during the first time she ruled as Queen that she also took over his seat on the Illuminati team, mirroring what her journey could be in Deadpool 3.

Medusa having a role like this in Deadpool and Wolverine would be perfect, showcasing the strength and anger she has, having lost Black Bolt and having to now lead her people by herself. While the part in this film could be small, it’s an easy way to reintroduce such an important superhero team to the MCU proper.

Deadpool 3 is expected in theaters May 3, 2024. What are your thoughts on the possibility of the Inhumans showing up in Deadpool 3? Let us know on Twitter or in The Cosmic Circus Discord.
