Sundance Film Festival 2025: ‘Atropia’, ‘Predators’, ‘Ricky’, ‘Twinless’ Controversy & More!

Sundance Film Festival 2025 wrapped this weekend, closing the door on another eventful year of amazing titles. The festival brought many films about individuals from every race, sexual orientation, disability, or gender identity. One can see the depth of quality from haunting discussions about disability in Life After to extravagant explorations about love and identity in the fantasy Rains Over Babel. Not to mention inventive stories about systemic poverty and social prejudice with titles like Seeds and Ricky.

But Sundance didn’t have all serious programming. The festival had select offerings that were quite entertaining. In our latest YouTube discussion, we touch on a few of these titles, such as Atropia, a comedic M.A.S.H.-inspired riff on the war in Iraq, where soldiers live in mock camps to prepare for deployment. The film showcases how underrated Alia Shawkat is as a comedic performer.

Another entry we discuss is Bubble & Squeak, a ridiculous Wes Anderson style fish out of water romantic comedy about a couple accused of smuggling cabbage into a strange country. It was easily one of our favorites, demonstrating irreverent humor and some of the funniest dialogue delivery from the entire festival.

We also wrap up our YouTube coverage by touching on the controversy that circulated at the end of the festival involving Twinless and Selena y Los Dinos. A couple of participants who were part of the virtual festival operated in bad faith, posting clips of the movies online, putting the entire virtual portion of the festival at risk for the foreseeable future. We talk about what that might mean for the participants who have disabilities in the future.

Check out our final video below, and be sure to like and subscribe to our YouTube channel! Feel free to comment and let us know if you are excited about any of the films mentioned. Stay tuned, because we have more reviews coming soon!
